Ancestral Nourishment tells the story of a simple cookie that has traveled across time, cultures, and generations. In the ancient world, this cookie was placed into the hands of loved ones who had passed on — a final offering meant to accompany them into eternity. Its sun-ray marking symbolized the rising of the sun, the continuation of life, and the hope carried from one world into the next. This book follows the cookie's journey from the earliest civilizations, through the tradition of Kahk, across migrations and families, and finally into my kitchen in San Antonio. From grain, fat, sweetness, and fire — the first recipe — this cookie has remained a quiet thread connecting all mankind.
